Food Phases

Preparation

Phase 1 - Amino Acids

The PrescriptFit shakes, soups, and puddings are fortified with branch chain amino acids. During Phase 1, patients should take a minimum of 8 doses (scoops) of PrescriptFit and can take up to 20 doses. The primary factor predicting weight loss is compliance with 8 doses or more. The amino acids have therapeutic benefits and help to regulate insulin function, improve blood pressure, cholesterol, fatigue, edema, sleep apnea, and a laundry list of other symptoms and diseases.

Phase 2 - Seafood

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day), during Phase 2 patients incorporate all they care to eat of seafood. Seafood is high in protein and low in fat, yielding only 25 calories per ounce! Despite popular belief, seafood isn’t bad for cholesterol. **No frying! Sauté with non-stick cooking spray or fat free butter spray.

Phase 3 - Poultry

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day) and seafood, during Phase 3 patients incorporate all they care to eat of skinless poultry. Poultry is also high in protein and low in fat, although the skin contains mostly saturated fat. Poultry yields about 50 calories per ounce and is extremely versatile for cooking. **No frying! Sauté with non-stick cooking spray or fat free butter spray.

Phase 4 - Vegetables

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day), seafood, and poultry, during Phase 4 patients incorporate all they care to eat of non-starchy vegetables (no corn, white potatoes, or starchy beans). Vegetables are high in fiber and low in calories. Snack on them raw or add a medley to stir-frys to spice up your dishes!

Phase 5 - Eggs

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day), seafood, poultry, and vegetables, during Phase 5 patients incorporate all they care to eat of eggs. Eggs are about 100 calories each and can be fried (with non-stick cooking spray), boiled, poached, scrambled, etc…

Phase 6 - Nuts

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day), seafood, poultry, vegetables, and eggs, during Phase 6 patients can incorporate nuts. All nuts are high in calories so we recommend using them as a condiment on a dish, salad, or dessert. They are high in unsaturated fat and can help lower cholesterol and improve artery and insulin function.

Phase 7 - Fruit

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day), seafood, poultry, vegetables, eggs, and nuts, patients can incorporate all they care to eat of fruit. All canned and jarred fruit must have no sugar added. Fruits are high in fiber and vitamins and low in fat. Fruits make a great addition to PrescriptFit shakes as well as a convenient snack.

Phase 8 - PrescriptFit Snacks

In addition to PrescriptFit (maintaining 8 doses per day), seafood, poultry, vegetables, eggs, nuts, and fruit, patients can now incorporate PrescriptFit snacks. We offer a variety of high protein, low carbohydrate snacks to satisfy your cravings. Take a bar or jerky with you on-the-go to ensure you always have a healthy option at hand.

Phase 9 - Pork

During phase 9, patients can incorporate pork into two splurge meals/events per week. A splurge meal is all you care to eat in one sitting. Pork is high in saturated (dangerous) fat. There is no “lean” pork. 8 ounces of pork = 1,000 calories.

Phase 10 - Beef

During phase 10, patients can incorporate pork and beef into two splurge meals/events per week. A splurge meal is all you care to eat in one sitting. Beef is high in saturated (dangerous) fat and high in calories. 8 ounces of beef = 1,000 calories.

Phase 11 - Caloric Beverages

During phase 11, patients can incorporate pork, beef, and caloric beverages into two splurge meals/events per week. A splurge meal is all you care to eat in one sitting. We encourage patients to completely eliminate most caloric beverages (soda, juice, milk, sweet tea, sports drinks, etc..) but permit alcoholic beverages in this phase.

Phase 12 - Dairy

During phase 12, patients can incorporate pork, beef, caloric beverages, and dairy into two splurge meals/events per week. A splurge meal is all you care to eat in one sitting. Yogurt, sour cream, and cottage cheese contains about 50 calories per ounce. Cheeses contain about 100 calories per ounce. One bowl of ice cream can be anywhere from 500-1,000 calories a bowl. It is a myth that milk is essential for growth or healthy bones. We can get all the calcium and vitamin D we need from a balanced diet of whole foods.

Phase 13 - Starches

During phase 13, patients can incorporate pork, beef, caloric beverages, dairy, and starches into two splurge meals/events per week. A splurge meal is all you care to eat in one sitting. Many of our excess carbohydrates and sugars come from starches. Bread, potatoes, pasta, corn, rice, cereal, pastries, pies, and cakes are all very calorically dense and sugar-laden and should be limited to splurge meals only.
